Our November customer of the month, Mrs Sommers, writes to us from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, about her brand new Edwardian conservatory. She was looking to expand her home with a new room to relax, and her grandchildren could play. It turned out that a conservatory offered her everything she needed!

Mrs Sommers faced one challenge with her project: she needed to position the conservatory against two walls and wrap it around the property to ensure the build was a streamlined addition to her home.

After discussing the various options available — such as lean-to and Victorian styles — Mrs Sommers chose an Edwardian conservatory in grey uPVC. With the customisation options agreed upon, our designers created a mockup of Mrs Sommers’ bespoke conservatory project.

Building Mrs Sommers’ Edwardian Conservatory
Mrs Sommers opted to use our network of approved installers to help build her conservatory. Because we thoroughly assess and approve every installer, she felt confident that the job would be finished to the highest standard.
Choosing to use our unique ConservaBase — an all-in-one base, floor, and wall system custom-built to the shape of her conservatory — Mrs Sommers would benefit from a quick installation.
The installer started by removing patio slabs then dug holes ready to fit concrete blocks. Thanks to our modern manufacturing methods, there’s no need to dig up heaps of concrete. Next up, the installer built the steel base frame and fitted insulation sheets that will provide Mrs Sommers with safe, solid and moisture-resistant foundations.
With the steel base in place, the installer was ready to construct the walls and roof. Mrs Sommers chose grey uPVC for her conservatory, finished with chrome handles and hinges. She was thrilled to see her vision start to come to life.
Thanks to the sleek pitched roof on her Edwardian conservatory, Mrs Sommers will be able to enjoy plenty of natural light in her new space. She wanted an airy and bright room, so she chose a single door on the side of her conservatory and folding doors on the front. She’ll be free to open up her space to enjoy her garden and fresh air, increasing the impression of airiness.
Finally, Mrs Sommers chose self-cleaning, solar control glass for the roof. In rain or hail, solar glass is much quieter than polycarbonate roofs. Plus, this high-performance glass lets daylight into the room while reflecting the sun’s rays, reducing heat build-up during the summer months. What’s more, Mrs Sommers was delighted with the added convenience thanks to the easy, self-cleaning glass, which requires less maintenance.
Mrs Sommers’ new conservatory was ready to use in just a few days, and the project was a huge success. She created a bright, modern room that her family will enjoy in whatever the weather for years to come. What’s more, her home felt much larger right away, with plenty of extra space where she can relax, and her grandchildren can play — just as she had envisioned.
